Bill overview
This bill allows a court in New Jersey to order that a portion of child support payments – up to 10% – be held in an irrevocable trust for the benefit of the child. The trust would be established with the agreement of the parents involved in a divorce or dissolution case, and the child would be designated as a beneficiary. The court retains the authority to adjust the trust terms and appoint a special fiduciary if necessary to ensure the child’s best interests are protected.
