Bill overview
This bill creates a program within the New Jersey Department of Education to help school districts develop ‘grow-your-own’ teacher programs for students with disabilities. These programs would encourage school districts to hire and train current employees – who aren’t certified as special education teachers – to fill those roles. The Department of Education will provide financial and other support to districts that participate, prioritizing those with the greatest need for special education teachers and ensuring representation across different regions and community types.
