Bill overview
This bill updates New Jersey’s criminal laws to address the misuse of nonconsensual pornographic deepfakes. It creates new offenses for threatening to disclose or disclosing such images, as well as for photographing or recording individuals in private areas without their consent. The bill also amends existing criminal coercion laws to include threats involving deepfakes. It establishes affirmative defenses and clarifies penalties for these new and evolving forms of digital harassment.
