Bill overview
This bill amends New Jersey’s school transportation laws to increase the mileage threshold for mandatory school transportation for students in preschool through grade four. Currently, students living more than 1 1/2 miles from their public school are eligible for transportation, but this bill raises that distance to 1 1/2 miles. The bill also adjusts the eligibility criteria under the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program Act to align with the revised mileage requirements. It allows students to waive transportation if their parents or guardians sign a written statement.
