Bill overview
This bill allows students to request that their diplomas reflect their preferred name instead of their legal name. Schools and institutions cannot require legal documentation to use a preferred name, but they can deny requests if the name is intended to misrepresent identity, avoid legal obligations, harm the institution, or be inappropriate. The bill also requires schools to update records of former students who have legally changed their name or gender and reissue documents with the updated information upon request.
