Bill overview
This bill changes the minimum number of thoroughbred horse racing dates required at Monmouth Park and the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey. Currently, racetracks must hold at least 141 dates, but can reduce them to 50 with approval. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee has amended the bill to allow a reduction to a minimum of 25 dates, contingent on the state’s annual appropriations for the horse racing industry. If the state allocates more than $5 million but less than $10 million, the racetracks can reduce the dates to 40.
