Overview
This bill creates a new Department of State Police within the Executive Branch of New Jersey’s state government. It transfers all functions, powers, and duties currently held by the Division of State Police within the Department of Law and Public Safety to the new department. The bill also establishes the role of Commissioner of State Police, who will oversee the department and report directly to the Governor, replacing the current Superintendent of State Police.
