Overview
This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) to seek federal approval to provide rental assistance to certain NJ FamilyCare beneficiaries. Specifically, DHS must apply to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to amend the state’s federal waiver under the Social Security Act. The rental assistance would be available to homeless, at-risk of homelessness, or transitioning individuals with serious mental illness or substance use disorders, and would be provided through vouchers or subsidies for up to six months.
