Overview
This bill allows pharmacists in New Jersey to dispense a 30-day supply of certain chronic maintenance medications to patients as an ‘emergency supply’ without a current prescription. To qualify, the pharmacist must have a record of a previous prescription, attempt to refill it unsuccessfully, and determine that refusal to dispense would endanger the patient’s health. The bill also includes protections for pharmacists against civil liability for dispensing these medications under specific circumstances, and requires the Board of Pharmacy to create regulations governing the process.
