Overview
This bill restricts New Jersey’s state and local governments from using taxpayer money or property to support immigrant detention facilities. Specifically, it prohibits spending on building, renovating, or leasing property for these facilities, as well as subsidizing the costs of privately-owned facilities. However, the bill does not prevent the state or local governments from providing essential health and safety resources to individuals held in detention centers. It defines ‘political subdivision’ to include counties and municipalities.
