Overview
This bill allows members of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) to perform traffic duties during emergencies and disasters. To do so, these volunteers must complete specific training, including a physical exam and a course from the New Jersey Police Training Commission, and take an oath of duty. They would assist law enforcement by directing traffic on roadways or at public events, subject to approval and supervision. The bill also protects CERT traffic officers from liability when acting in good faith and within their training.
