Overview
This bill proposes temporary surcharges on certain transactions in New Jersey to help fund preparations for hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup Tournament. Specifically, it introduces a 2.5% hotel and motel occupancy surcharge, a 3% sales tax surcharge in the Meadowlands district, a $0.50 surcharge on transportation network rides within the Meadowlands, and a 10% surcharge on online sports wagering revenue. Taxpayers may be eligible for a credit against their income tax for surcharges paid. The funds generated from these surcharges will be deposited into the General Fund and the Casino Revenue Fund.
