Bill overview
This bill changes how sales tax revenue collected through county ordinances is used. Currently, these funds can be used for various programs including early childhood education, adult education, reducing truancy, homelessness programs, affordable housing, teacher recruitment, and workforce training. SB 259 redirects these funds to primarily support programs aimed at reducing homelessness and establishing a public transit system. Furthermore, it prohibits the use of these funds for specific educational programs, affordable housing development, teacher incentives, and hospitality industry workforce training programs, starting October 1, 2025.
