Bill overview
This bill changes how law enforcement handles firearms when someone is placed on a mental health crisis hold. Officers can now immediately confiscate a firearm if it’s on the person or nearby, and they must provide the individual with a receipt and information about the return process. The firearm will generally be returned upon release from treatment unless an officer files for an order of protection or the person is otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm.
