Bill overview
This bill makes changes to how the State Public Health Laboratory charges fees for certain newborn screenings. Starting January 1, 2026, the lab can charge up to $150 for these tests, or the amount Medicaid pays, whichever is lower. Previously, the lab could charge up to $122 until July 1, 2025. The bill also requires Medicaid to reimburse these screenings separately from other labor and delivery costs and directs the Department of Health and Human Services to request a higher reimbursement rate from the federal government.
