Bill overview
This bill changes how health insurance plans in Nevada cover prescription drugs used to prevent or treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis C. Currently, insurance companies are prohibited from using ‘step therapy’ – requiring patients to try less expensive drugs first – when covering these medications. The bill removes this prohibition, allowing insurers to continue using step therapy for these specific drugs. It also clarifies that the Public Employees’ Benefits Program and Medicaid managed care organizations can still use step therapy for these drugs.
