Bill overview
This bill would allow courts in South Dakota to require defendants charged with domestic abuse to wear a global positioning system (GPS) device as a condition of their release. The device would track the defendant’s location 24/7 and alert law enforcement if they violate a no-contact order or are in a restricted area. Victims would have the option to receive similar monitoring for their own safety, with costs covered by the defendant. The bill also includes provisions to ensure victims are informed about the monitoring process and their rights.
