Bill overview
The Safeguarding Access to Congregations and Religious Establishments from Disruption Act (SACRED Act) makes it a federal crime to harass individuals lawfully accessing or seeking to access places of religious worship. Specifically, it prohibits intimidating or obstructing access within 100 feet of a place of worship, or intentionally harassing someone seeking to enter or exit within that distance. Individuals harmed by such actions can sue for damages, and the Attorney General can also bring civil actions to protect religious freedom. The bill also allows state attorneys general to act on behalf of residents to address violations.
