Overview
This bill makes changes to several Alaskan energy-related organizations and funds. It amends the Alaska affordable energy fund, the Alaska Energy Authority, and establishes a Rural Energy Infrastructure Organization (REIO). Specifically, it clarifies the REIO’s role in developing energy infrastructure in unorganized borough communities lacking direct access to the North Slope gas pipeline, and updates the Alaska Energy Authority’s board composition and powers to better support these initiatives. The bill also addresses how municipal and rural utilities can secure a share of power generated by projects funded by the authority.
