Bill overview
This bill allows West Virginia counties and municipalities to take action against property owners whose buildings or properties are in a state of disrepair or hazard. It gives these local governments the authority to declare properties unsafe and require owners to clean them up. If owners fail to comply, the local government can place a lien on the property and even have it removed at the owner’s expense, with a process for appeals to the circuit court.
