Bill overview
This bill proposes to increase the tax rate on motor vehicle sales in West Virginia. Currently, the tax is 5% of the sale price, but beginning July 1, 2017, it will increase to 6%. The bill also addresses the exchange of used vehicles, allowing for a deduction of taxes paid on previously sold vehicles from the purchase price of a new vehicle. Additionally, it clarifies definitions related to sales and motor vehicles, and expands exemptions for certain vehicle types and purchasers, including military personnel and senior citizens.
