Bill overview
This bill would allow Massachusetts cities and towns to decide whether or not to create their own rules for how public employees are grouped for retirement purposes. Currently, retirement classifications are determined at the state level, but this legislation seeks to give local governments more control over these decisions. The bill was introduced to provide local flexibility in managing public employee retirement systems. It ultimately failed to pass.
