Bill overview
This bill seeks to expand the definition of what counts as available housing within Massachusetts’s subsidized housing inventory to include accessory dwelling units (ADUs), such as in-law apartments or backyard cottages. Currently, ADUs may not be fully included in calculations of available housing, potentially limiting the number of affordable housing units tracked. By incorporating ADUs, the state could better assess the need for and availability of subsidized housing options. The bill is currently under review by the Joint Committee on Housing.
