Bill overview
The Transit Workforce Development Act aims to strengthen the workforce supporting public transportation systems. It modifies existing federal grant programs for buses and related infrastructure to allow a greater portion of funds – up to 10% – to be used for training and developing the skills of transit workers. Specifically, the bill prioritizes funding for buses and related equipment, as well as bus-related facilities, and shifts the focus of workforce development to address the transition to zero-emission vehicles. This will help ensure a skilled workforce is available as transit agencies modernize their fleets.
