Bill overview
This bill allows New Jersey school districts to define excused absences and provide home instruction for students whose parents are unexpectedly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It also allows districts to adjust caregiving arrangements if a parent’s detention necessitates a change in who cares for the student. The Commissioner of Education will create guidelines for both excused absences and home instruction, outlining required documentation and procedures.
