Overview
This bill protects certified doulas in New Jersey from employment actions taken because they must attend a birth for a client in active labor. Employers are prohibited from discharging, harassing, or retaliating against doulas for missing work due to this obligation, provided they offer advance notice when possible. If an employer violates these protections, employees can sue for damages and seek remedies like reinstatement, back pay, and attorney’s fees.
