Bill overview
The Prevent Endless Wars Act aims to limit the duration of authorizations for the use of military force (AUMFs). Specifically, it restricts Congress from approving AUMFs that authorize military action for longer than five years or an indefinite period. This bill seeks to strengthen congressional oversight of military actions by preventing the establishment of long-standing, open-ended commitments. It does this by modifying the War Powers Resolution to ensure AUMFs are subject to a five-year limit.
