Bill overview
Domenic and Ed’s Law aims to provide relief for parents who have taken out student loans on behalf of a child with a long-term disability. The bill modifies existing law to allow for the discharge of a parent’s loan liability if their student becomes permanently and totally disabled, or unable to work due to a significant medical condition lasting at least 60 months. This change applies to all outstanding student loans received by parents before, on, or after the bill’s enactment, regardless of when the student’s disability began. It seeks to ease the financial burden on families supporting students with disabilities.
