Bill overview
The Humane Enforcement and Legal Protections for Separated Children Act (HELP Separated Children Act) aims to protect children affected by immigration enforcement actions. It requires the Department of Homeland Security to identify parents of children detained during enforcement, provide them with opportunities to arrange for the child’s care, and ensure they are treated with consideration for the child’s best interests. The bill also establishes a system for collecting data on parental status and training personnel on relevant child welfare issues, and facilitates reentry for parents with pending family court cases or humanitarian needs.
