Bill overview
The Energy Consumer Protection Act of 2026 aims to strengthen enforcement of regulations protecting consumers in the energy markets. It allows the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to temporarily or permanently ban individuals from participating in energy trading if they violate market manipulation rules or provide false information. The bill also prohibits individuals from knowingly submitting false information about natural gas transportation and sales, and it grants the Commission the authority to suspend or prohibit individuals engaging in related business activities for such violations.
