Bill overview
The Built To Last Act of 2026 aims to improve our ability to prepare for and respond to extreme weather and other environmental challenges. It directs the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere to identify a consistent, federal set of forward-looking meteorological information. The Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology will then work to make this information available to organizations developing standards, building codes, and certifications, with the goal of incorporating these projections into those frameworks. This legislation seeks to bolster long-term planning and resilience against changing environmental conditions.
