Bill overview
The Guard the Skies Act amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and the U.S. Code to authorize the National Guard to assist in protecting critical facilities and assets from unmanned aircraft (drones). Specifically, it expands the roles and responsibilities of the National Guard and the Department of Defense in this area, allowing them to take actions under certain circumstances with the approval of state governors. The bill also addresses the deployment of Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve members during emergencies.
