Bill overview
This bill changes the rules for hiring law enforcement officers in New Jersey. Currently, Civil Service appointing authorities must select from the top three most qualified candidates. This bill expands that to allow them to consider the top five candidates for law enforcement positions, while maintaining the existing ‘rule of three’ for all other Civil Service appointments and ensuring veterans’ preference is considered.
