Overview
This bill implements procedures for automated "Clean Slate" expungements in New Jersey. It amends existing law to shorten the waiting periods for eligible criminal records to be expunged, particularly for disorderly persons and petty disorderly persons offenses, and for certain indictable crimes. The bill also establishes an automated process overseen by the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) to identify and expunge eligible records without requiring individuals to file petitions with the court. Finally, it addresses outstanding court-ordered financial assessments related to expungements.
