Bill overview
The Recover COVID Unemployment Fraud in Banks Act establishes a task force to recover unclaimed pandemic-era unemployment compensation funds held by financial institutions and state unclaimed property administrators. This task force, led by the Secretary of Labor, will coordinate with state and federal agencies to identify improperly paid unemployment benefits, develop guidance for financial institutions and state agencies, and provide resources to individuals whose identity information was used fraudulently. The bill also extends the statute of limitations for criminal and civil enforcement actions related to pandemic unemployment fraud, allowing for prosecution up to 10 years after the violation.
