Bill overview
The Protecting America’s Food and Agriculture Act of 2019 authorizes U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to hire and train more specialists and support staff focused on inspecting agricultural goods entering the country. Specifically, the bill aims to increase the number of CBP Agriculture Specialists, Agriculture Technicians, and Agriculture Canine Teams to better handle seasonal increases in volume and ensure adequate border protection. It also includes funding for these personnel and a study to assess interagency coordination in agricultural inspection efforts.
