Bill overview
This bill requires the Department of Energy to identify and offer a small piece of land – approximately 0.25 acres – within the Durango disposal site in Colorado for use as a storage location for residual radioactive materials. The land must be south of County Road 212. If the state accepts the offer, the federal government will transfer ownership of the land to Colorado, with the condition that the state manages it in accordance with the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act. This action is part of ongoing efforts to remediate properties near the Durango processing site.
