Bill overview
The CLEANER Act of 2019 aims to strengthen regulations surrounding the disposal of hazardous waste generated by the oil, gas, and geothermal energy industries. Currently, waste from these activities is exempt from certain hazardous waste regulations. This bill requires the Environmental Protection Agency to determine if these wastes meet the criteria for hazardous waste listing and, if so, to establish specific regulations for their disposal. It also updates regulations for facilities that receive these wastes to ensure proper environmental protection.
