Bill overview
The Hotel Advertising Transparency Act of 2019 aims to make hotel advertising more transparent by requiring hotels and other short-term lodging providers to include all mandatory fees – such as resort fees and cleaning fees – in their advertised rates. This bill seeks to prevent deceptive advertising practices and ensure consumers are fully aware of the total cost of their stay before booking. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will be responsible for enforcing these rules, and state attorneys general can also take action to protect consumers within their states.
