Bill overview
The Fairness to Pet Owners Act of 2019 aims to give pet owners more control over their prescription medications. It requires the Federal Trade Commission to create rules ensuring pet owners automatically receive a copy of their veterinary prescriptions without needing to request it. Furthermore, it prohibits veterinarians from requiring pet owners to purchase the medication from them or pay extra fees to obtain a copy of the prescription. This legislation is intended to promote competition and help consumers save money on pet medications.
