This bill, the Bots Research Act, directs the Federal Trade Commission to create a task force to investigate the impact of automated accounts – often called "bots" – on social media, public conversations, and elections. The task force will analyze what constitutes a bot, how they’re used, and how to address negative effects while safeguarding free speech online. It will then submit a comprehensive report to Congress and federal agencies within a year of its formation.
