Bill overview
The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act aims to prevent local and state governments from shielding undocumented immigrants from federal immigration enforcement. It mandates that all jurisdictions cooperate with federal authorities in identifying and detaining individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States. The bill also strengthens the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers, expands the criteria for establishing probable cause for detainers, and creates a private right of action for victims of crimes where a released undocumented immigrant is believed to be responsible. Furthermore, it modifies existing laws to ensure that states and localities are ineligible for certain federal grants if they fail to comply with immigration enforcement requirements.
