Bill overview
This bill, the American Election Security Act, aims to strengthen the security of U.S. federal elections by prohibiting the use of voting systems that rely on hardware and software manufactured or maintained outside of the United States, or produced by foreign entities. It defines ‘foreign entity’ broadly to include corporations with foreign ownership or control, and establishes requirements for domestic manufacturing and maintenance of voting system components. The bill also sets a compliance date for states and jurisdictions to adopt these new standards.
