Bill overview
This bill modifies the process for determining who becomes the acting head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in the event the regular Secretary, Deputy Secretary, or Associate Secretary are unavailable. It clarifies that the Associate Secretary should also be considered in the line of succession, and establishes a requirement that any acting official must have served at least 90 days within the Department, the head of a component, or in the Senior Executive Service before being designated. The changes aim to provide a more defined and consistent succession plan for DHS leadership.
