Bill overview
This bill, the Portable Generator Safety Standard Act, directs the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to establish safety standards for portable generators to prevent deaths and injuries. The CPSC must create a final standard within a year, incorporating requirements based on existing American National Standards for carbon monoxide emissions and generator safety, as well as specific labeling and cord length requirements. The standard will also address shutoff capabilities in high carbon monoxide environments and be reviewed and revised every five years.
