Bill overview
The National Police Misuse of Force Investigation Board Act of 2020 establishes an independent board to investigate deaths and serious injuries involving police use of force. The board will be composed of appointees with expertise in civil rights, psychology, and related fields, and will have the authority to investigate incidents involving police shootings, deaths in custody, and severe injuries. States receiving DOJ grants must allow the board’s findings to be admissible in court and report on their efforts to address the board’s recommendations, with potential reductions in funding for non-compliance.
