Bill overview
The REPAIR Academia Act aims to increase oversight of international students and researchers in academic programs. It requires program sponsors and institutions to report changes in a student’s field of study to immigration officials and when students participate in federally funded research. Homeland Security can then review and revoke visas if there’s evidence of misrepresented intentions, a change in field of study posing a risk, or participation in research that could threaten national security or research integrity. The bill also establishes a process for administrative and judicial review of revocation decisions and mandates an annual report on visa activity and student enrollment.
