Bill overview
The Curbing Abuse and Saving Expression In Technology Act, or CASE-IT Act, aims to modify Section 230 of the Communications Act, which currently provides broad immunity to online platforms for content posted by their users. This bill would limit this immunity, particularly for platforms that facilitate illegal content, exploitative contact between adults and minors, or harmful content for children. It would require dominant platforms to ensure their content moderation practices align with First Amendment standards and introduce a process for determining market dominance and assessing compliance with those standards.
