Bill overview
The Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act aims to expand access to record expungement for individuals convicted of simple drug possession. Currently, only those convicted before age 21 could petition for expungement. This bill removes that age restriction, allowing first-time, nonviolent drug offenders to have their convictions expunged after completing probation. It seeks to provide a ‘fresh start’ for those with past drug-related offenses.
