Bill overview
This bill, the Fair Medical Debt Reporting Act, aims to protect consumers’ credit reports by limiting when medical debt can be reported. It prevents credit reporting agencies from including unpaid medical debt that hasn’t been sent to collections, or debt sent to collections within the past year, as well as debt that has been fully paid. The bill also requires healthcare providers and collection agencies to notify consumers before reporting medical debt and provide a detailed accounting of the debt.
